None

We have received text from H.R. 10223: End Tuberculosis Now Act of 2026. This bill was received on 2026-09-02, and currently has 9 cosponsors.

Here is a short summary of the bill:

This bill would update U.S. foreign assistance law to make fighting tuberculosis (TB) a major priority of U.S. global health policy.

What it would do

  • It would rewrite an existing section of the Foreign Assistance Act to focus more specifically on preventing, diagnosing, treating, and eliminating TB worldwide .
  • It says the U.S. should support efforts to:
    • find TB cases earlier, including through active case finding and contact tracing;
    • treat adults and children with all forms of TB, including latent TB;
    • expand preventive treatment for people at high risk;
    • improve TB infection control in places like hospitals and prisons;
    • support better diagnostics, medicines, and vaccines;
    • reduce cost and supply barriers to TB care; and
    • help integrate TB services into primary health care systems where appropriate.
  • It encourages the use of newer tools such as molecular diagnostics, telehealth solutions, and safer oral treatments.
  • It directs U.S. programs to pay special attention to countries with the highest TB rates and to high-risk groups, including people with HIV, children, prisoners, migrants, miners, and people exposed to silica.

Goals and priorities

  • The President would be directed to set goals for the period from January 1, 2027 through December 31, 2030 to:
    • reduce TB incidence by 80% from 2015 levels;
    • reduce TB deaths by 90% from 2015 levels;
    • diagnose and start treatment for 90% of new TB cases;
    • diagnose and start treatment for 90% of new drug-resistant TB cases;
    • achieve a 90% treatment success rate for both drug-sensitive and drug-resistant TB; and
    • provide TB preventive treatment to 30 million people.
  • It also requires an update to the National Action Plan for Combating Multidrug-Resistant Tuberculosis.

How the U.S. would carry this out

  • The bill authorizes the President to provide assistance for TB prevention, treatment, control, and elimination.
  • It emphasizes coordination with:
    • partner countries;
    • international organizations;
    • nonprofit groups; and
    • the private sector.
  • It also calls for coordination across U.S. agencies involved in international TB work, to reduce duplication and improve accountability.
  • The bill supports sharing TB data and epidemiological information, helping high-TB countries strengthen local capacity, and using donor contributions more effectively.

Reporting and oversight

  • The President would have to submit annual reports to Congress on U.S. TB assistance and its results until the goals are met or until December 31, 2032, whichever comes first.
  • Those reports would cover items like:
    • numbers of people diagnosed and treated;
    • treatment completion rates;
    • training activities;
    • funding amounts and spending categories;
    • supply shortages or procurement problems;
    • coordination with partners and other agencies; and
    • country-level progress on prevention, diagnosis, and treatment.
  • The bill would also require an annual report on TB research and development, including progress on diagnostics, treatments, telehealth, and vaccines.
  • Within 4 years, the Comptroller General would have to evaluate how well U.S.-supported TB programs are working and recommend improvements.

Duration

  • The new authority created by this bill would expire on January 1, 2033 .
