Disney’s ABC Sues FCC Over Early Broadcast License Review and ‘Retaliatory Campaign’

Quiver Data Analyst

Walt Disney ($DIS)’s ABC network sued the Federal Communications Commission, alleging the agency is violating its First Amendment rights through an early review of eight ABC station licenses and other regulatory actions. ABC is asking a federal court in Washington to halt the renewal process and block further FCC action targeting its editorial decisions.

  • The FCC launched the early license review after opening a probe into Disney’s diversity, equity and inclusion practices.
  • ABC said the process threatens stations in major markets including New York, Los Angeles and Chicago and has already affected editorial decisions.
  • The network is also challenging FCC scrutiny of whether “The View” should retain its exemption from political equal-time requirements.
  • Disney reported $1.11 million in federal lobbying expenses in Q1 2026, with its filings showing contacts with the FCC and White House on communications and media-related policy. Disney’s broader lobbying activity has included streaming, content and communications issues.
