2026's Biggest Insider Stock Purchases: Who's Buying and Why

Quiver Quantitative Logo

In 2206 alone, insiders have spent billions of dollars buying shares of their own company, with some concentrated in a single large purchase, while others are spread across dozens of consecutive trades over multiple months.

But insiders’ buying and selling habits can point to the direction a company is taking — intense buying periods may signal impending strong financial results, while selling periods could signal troubled waters ahead.

Using SEC filings, Quiver Quantitative parsed insider trading data to create a dashboard — tracking what insiders are doing with a company’s shares. Here’s what the dashboard has revealed about insider purchasing in 2026:

What companies have seen insiders spend big on shares?

Cascade Investment — Republic Services Inc. (RSG)
35 purchases concentrated in May and August, accumulating to $388.8 million

Cascade Investment — an investment bank holding the majority of founder Bill Gates’ personal wealth — purchased just under $400 million worth of shares in RSG, which is the second-largest waste management company in the United States.

The investment first currently holds over 112 million shares in RSG, which has seen its stock performance soar over the past few years. With over 110 million shares, RSG is now a 35% owner in the waste management company

Frangou Angeliki — CEO of Navios Maritime Partners (NMM)
95 insider purchases for an estimated $853 million.

Navios Maritime, a Greek-based multinational shipping and logistics company, has seen nearly 100 insider purchases in 2026, with all of them coming from long-time CEO Frangou Angeliki.

Navios Maritime has also seen steady growth since January, with

share price growing over 30% in the last six months
.
Insider trading purchases peaked in quarter 2 of 2026

Sumitomo Mitsui Financial Group — Jeffries Financial Group (JEF)
Two insider purchases worth an estimated $628 million

SMFG, one of the top Japanese financial groups, made two major purchases in JEF shares. The trades came after the two companies announced a joint venture — SMBC Nikko Jefferies Securities — set to launch in January 2027.

As part of this, SMFG now holds around a 20% stake in JEF, while maintaining 5% voting power.

Jack Jiang Huang — CEO of 51Talk Online Education Group (COE)
Huang made over 100 purchases totaling $194.5 million

Huang currently owns over 30% of the company’s shares and made over 100 insider purchases just in 2026.

COE is an AI-driven online education tech company, starting in Singapore but has since expanded globally. The company’s stock peaked back in 2020, reaching share prices of over $100, but has since

decreased to around $30 per share
.

Mitsui Sumitomo Insurance — 10% owner of W.R. Berkeley (WRB)
27 purchases since January 2026 totaling nearly $160 million

Every insider purchase made in 2026 of W.R. Berkeley — the Fortune 500 insurance holding company — shares came from major global property and casualty insurance company Mitsui Sumitomo.

Mitsui Sumitomo invested $3.8 billion in WRB, acquiring a 15% ownership stake in the Connecticut-based insurance company. Mitsui Sumitomo’s stake in the company resulted entirely from open-market or secondary purchases, meaning they purchased their shares through public stock exchanges or from pre-existing holders — also signaling insider confidence in the company.

2026 patterns — where is the highest volume of purchases?

Renn Fund Inc. (RCG) — 500+ insider purchases since Jan.

Since Jan 2, Horizon Kinetics Asset Management, RCG’s late president Stahl Murray and current CEO Peter Doyle, have bought over 500 shares of the company’s stock. Each share is valued at around two to three dollars.

RCG is a closed-end management investment company, focused primarily on small-and mid-cap public equities. The company’s top holdings include Texas Pacific Land Company and Fidelity Investments Money Market Government Portfolio. Currently, CEO Doyle and Horizon Kinetics co-manage RCG’s portfolio.

Texas Pacific Land Company (TPL)— 150+ insider purchases since Jan.

Horizon Kinetics Asset Management also leads insider purchases for TPL, RCG’s top holdings. Horizon Kinetics alone has purchased shares over 150 times since January. The asset management company is a 10% owner of TPL, holding over 3.2 million shares.

TPL owns nearly 900,000 acres of land in West Texas, making it one of the largest landowners in the State of Texas. The company also collects revenue from oil and gas operations and manages water services used in hydraulic fracking.

51Talk Online Education Group (COE) — 111 purchases in 2026

COE not only tracked some of the highest insider spending so far in 2026, but its CEO also recorded over 100 insider purchases, bringing total insider purchases to nearly $200 million.

Navios Maritime Partners (NMM) — 98 purchases starting in March

CEO Angeliki Frangou has made 98 purchases of NMM stock so far in 2026. Her near-weekly buying pace places her spending among the highest tracked in NMM insider trading, and her purchase count ranks in the top five for 2026.

First Citizens BancShares (FCNCA) — 56 purchases concentrated in March and June

Billionaire and CEO of First Citizens, Frank Holding Jr., made over 50 purchases of FCNCA shares in March, then again in June. Both concentrations of share purchases came directly before FCNCA saw an increase in stock price.

Despite being a publicly traded company, First Citizens is largely controlled by the Holding family, who have owned the bank for three generations. Currently, the family maintains about a 20% stake in the company.
