  • Hassan was born in Boston, but grew up in Lincoln, Massachusetts. Hassan earned her bachelor's degree from Brown University in 1980. She went on to earn her law degree from Northeastern University School of Law in 1985. Before entering public service, Hassan was information officer for the Massachusetts Department of Social Services from 1980 to 1982. She then worked as an attorney for Palmer and Dodge from 1985 to 1992. She also worked as attorney/assistant general counsel for Brigham and Women's Hospital/Partners Healthcare from 1993 to 1996. She became an attorney for Sullivan, Weinstein, and McQuay in 1996.
