H.R. 9701: Daughters of the American Revolution Membership Integrity Act.

This bill would change the federal law that charters the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) to spell out who can be a member.

What it would do

It would add a new membership section to the DAR’s federal charter.
It would say that membership is limited to women who also meet the organization’s existing family-lineage and other membership requirements.
It defines “woman” as an adult human female.
It further defines “female” using a biological definition tied to the reproductive system that produces ova, with language intended to cover people who naturally have, had, will have, or would have that system, including certain congenital anomalies or disruptions.

Practical effect

The bill would make the DAR’s federal charter explicitly limit membership to women, rather than leaving that point less clearly stated in federal law. It would not rewrite the DAR’s broader membership standards, which would still include the organization’s existing genealogical and other qualifications.
