H.R. 9484: Water Reservoir Transparency Act

This bill would require the Secretary of the Army, acting through the Chief of Engineers, to study how new commercial and industrial water users affect Corps of Engineers reservoirs, including how they affect water use and water levels.

Within 180 days after the bill becomes law, the Secretary would have to:

• Send a report with the study results to the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure and the Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works.
• Post the study publicly on a Corps of Engineers website.

In practical terms, the bill is mainly a transparency and information-gathering measure. It does not set new water-use limits, require permits, or directly change how reservoirs are operated. Instead, it directs the Army Corps to analyze the impact of newer commercial and industrial water users and make that information available to Congress and the public.
