What the bill would do

• It officially names the measure the SEAL Team Six Congressional Gold Medal Act.
• It states Congress’s findings about the September 11, 2001 attacks, the war on terrorism, and SEAL Team Six’s raid on bin Laden’s compound in Abbottabad, Pakistan.
• It authorizes the Speaker of the House and the Senate President pro tempore to arrange for a gold medal of appropriate design to be awarded on behalf of Congress.
• It directs the Secretary of the Treasury to design and strike the medal.

Duplicate medals

• The Treasury Secretary would be allowed to make and sell bronze duplicate medals at a price meant to cover production costs.
• Each member of SEAL Team Six and related staff who participated in the bin Laden operation, as determined by the Secretary of Defense, would receive a bronze medal.

Funding and legal status

• The bill allows the costs to be paid from the United States Mint Public Enterprise Fund.
• Money from sales of duplicate bronze medals would be deposited back into that fund.
• The medals would be treated as national medals and as numismatic items under federal law.
