H.R. 10292: Southern Nevada Wastewater Infrastructure Lands Act

What the land would be used for

The land would be transferred without payment, but only for public purposes. The bill specifically says it may be used for building, operating, and managing infrastructure connected to wastewater services. In other words, the land would likely support sewer or wastewater treatment-related facilities.

How the transfer would work

After the Water Reclamation District asks for the land, the Secretary of the Interior would have up to 180 days to complete the conveyance. The bill says the transfer would happen despite some of the usual federal land-use planning steps that normally apply.

Costs and paperwork

The Water Reclamation District would have to cover all administrative costs of the transfer, including surveys. The Interior Department would also need to prepare maps and legal descriptions of the land, make any minor corrections needed, and keep those documents available for public inspection at the appropriate Bureau of Land Management offices.

Limits on use

If any part of the land is no longer used for a public purpose, that parcel would revert back to the United States.
