H.R. 10233: Strengthening Mosquito Abatement for Safety and Health 2.0 Act

What the bill does

• Extends funding for the Mosquito Abatement for Safety and Health program through fiscal years 2026 to 2030 at $100 million per year.

• Allows the Health and Human Services Secretary to consider new and innovative technology when awarding grants for mosquito prevention and control.

• Expands how program money can be used to include:

  • Technical assistance for planning, developing, and running disease assessment and mosquito control programs.

  • Training and education for people working on these programs, including support for public health entomologists.

• Lets grant recipients spend up to 5% of their yearly award on continuing education and training for staff involved in the work.

• Adds a federal preparedness component by directing HHS, through CDC and the Assistant Secretary for Preparedness and Response, to plan for the Strategic National Stockpile to hold emergency supplies of nonperishable vector-borne disease control products.

• Requires the national vector-borne disease strategy to include a plan for emergency stockpiling and for working with manufacturers to make sure control products can be bought quickly when needed.
