H.R. 10186: Hands Off Our Great Lakes Act

This bill would prevent the federal government from changing the official names of the Great Lakes. It says that the President, the Secretary of the Interior, and other federal officials could not alter, rename, or redesignate the official geographic names of:

Lake Superior
Lake Michigan
Lake Huron
Lake Erie
Lake Ontario

The bill would also отмена, or make legally ineffective, Executive Order 14422, which reportedly directed that Lake Ontario be renamed “Lake America.” In addition, it would bar federal officials from carrying out, enforcing, or spending federal money on that executive order or on any similar action trying to do the same thing.

In practical terms, the bill would lock in the current federal names of the five Great Lakes and stop the federal government from using its authority or funds to rename them.
