What schools would have to do

If a school district or similar local education agency receives covered federal education funds, it would not be allowed to let organizations that provide abortions, or their subsidiaries, distribute or share information about abortion or abortion-related services with students on school grounds or through the school’s online platforms. That restriction would also cover a school or district reposting, sharing, or otherwise distributing such information on behalf of an outside organization through social media or other virtual channels.

Parent notification requirement

The bill would also amend existing federal education rules to require notification to parents before schools distribute or disseminate information about abortion or abortion-related services to students. In practical terms, schools would need to give parents notice before sharing that kind of material.

What counts as abortion-related services

The bill defines abortion-related service broadly as any medical, surgical, or support care directly related to ending a pregnancy.

How it would change current law

The measure amends a section of the General Education Provisions Act, which already limits certain activities and materials in schools. This bill would add abortion-related information to those limits and create a specific prohibition on allowing abortion providers to distribute such information in schools or on school-run digital platforms.
