H.R. 10149: For the relief of Maria Cordova.

This bill would grant Maria Cordova a special pathway to become a lawful permanent resident of the United States, if she applies within 2 years of the bill becoming law and pays the required fees.

What it would do

• Allows Maria Cordova to apply for an immigrant visa or to adjust her status to that of a lawful permanent resident, even if normal immigration limits would otherwise block that path.
• If she is already in the United States before the filing deadline, she would be treated as having entered and remained in the country lawfully for purposes of this bill.
• Bars her from being removed, denied admission, or found ineligible for permanent residence based on any immigration-related ground already reflected in federal records as of the date the bill becomes law.
• Requires the Department of Homeland Security to cancel any existing removal or deportation order, or related inadmissibility/deportability finding, that was entered against her for those covered reasons.
• Requires the State Department to reduce the number of immigrant visas available for people from her country of birth by one in the current or next fiscal year, if a visa or green card is granted under this bill.
• States that her natural parents, brothers, and sisters do not gain any immigration benefits just because of their relationship to her.

What it does not do

• It does not create a general change in immigration law for other people.
• It does not give immigration benefits to Maria Cordova’s relatives.
• It does not take effect unless the required application is filed on time and with the proper fees.
