U.S. liquefied natural gas (LNG) exports reached an all-time high in August at 9.33 million metric tons, according to LSEG data, as facilities completed maintenance and Venture Global’s Plaquemines plant ramped up output. The surge reinforced America’s position as the world’s top LNG exporter.

- Plaquemines, the U.S.’s second-largest LNG plant, shipped 1.6M tons in August (17% of total exports) and is expected to expand further in September.
- Europe remained the top buyer, taking 6.16M tons (66% of exports), up from 58% in July.
- Exports to Asia slipped to 1.47M tons from 1.8M in July as regional prices fell.
- Egypt imported 0.57M tons (6% of exports), down slightly from July, amid declining domestic gas output.

- Shell’s LNG Canada plant shipped 0.4M tons in August, up from 0.3M in July.
