With the Senate preparing to vote on the GOP budget bill, Tesla CEO Elon Musk just issued sharp criticism of the "one big beautiful bill". In a post on X, Elon Musk said:
"[T]his bill raises the debt ceiling by $5 TRILLION, the biggest increase in history, putting America in the fast lane to debt slavery!"
Musk has also expressed concerns about wind and solar projects which would be put on hold as a result of the bill's passage, calling it "utterly insane and destructive".
Senate Republicans released the full version of their bill text late last night, and a vote on a motion to proceed may come later today. In order for that to happen, however, Republicans can only afford to lose three GOP votes. There are currently multiple Republican senators who have expressed concerns about the current state of the bill, but there have been criticisms in every step of the process.
Betting markets still give an approximately 73% chance of the bill being passed by Trump's July 4th deadline.
