U.S. Opens Investigation Into Tesla’s Full Self-Driving Over Traffic Violations

Quiver Data Analyst

U.S. auto safety regulators have opened a new investigation into nearly 2.9 million vehicles from Tesla ($TSLA) equipped with its Full Self-Driving (FSD) system, following more than 50 reports of traffic safety violations and several crashes linked to the software.

  • The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) said the FSD system has induced vehicle behavior that violated traffic laws, including driving through red lights and traveling in the wrong lane during lane changes.
  • The probe covers 58 reports, including 14 crashes and 23 injuries, and could lead to a recall if safety risks are confirmed.
  • Tesla issued a new software update to its FSD system earlier this week but has not commented on the investigation.
  • Lawmakers have urged greater scrutiny of Tesla’s autonomous systems amid rising safety complaints and ongoing probes into related crashes.
