SM Energy Q2 net income rises to $1.07 billion

SM Energy (SM) reported second-quarter 2026 net income of $1.07 billion, or $4.46 per diluted share, on oil, gas and NGL production revenue of $2.16 billion. The company said it generated record operating cash flow of $1.1 billion and returned $137 million to stockholders through dividends and share repurchases.

SM raised its second-half 2026 production outlook while maintaining full-year capital guidance. The company also closed the $950 million sale of certain South Texas assets and used proceeds to redeem all $819 million of its 2026 senior notes.

  • Second-quarter production totaled about 440 MBoe/d, including about 230 MBbl/d of oil.
  • SM raised second-half 2026 production guidance to 435–440 MBoe/d.
  • Full-year 2026 capital guidance remained at $2.65 billion to $2.85 billion.
  • The company actioned 95% of its targeted merger-related synergies, totaling $355 million.
  • Quarterly dividend was $0.22 per share, and share repurchases totaled $84 million.
