S. 4868: American Rescuers of the Holocaust Congressional Gold Medal Act of 2026

This bill would direct Congress to award a

single Congressional Gold Medal

honoring the people of the United States who helped rescue and aid Jews and other refugees during Nazi Germany’s Holocaust-era “Final Solution.” The medal is meant to recognize those rescue efforts and the lives that were saved as a result.

What the bill would do

• Authorizes Congress to create and present one gold medal in honor of U.S. rescuers and relief workers involved in helping Jews and other refugees during 1933–1945.
• Directs the Secretary of the Treasury to design and strike the medal with appropriate symbols, wording, and imagery.
• Provides that, after the award, the medal will be given to the

  United States Holocaust Memorial Museum

  for display and research, subject to the museum’s policies.
• Expresses Congress’s view that the museum should allow the medal to be displayed at other appropriate locations when requested, if consistent with its policies.
• Allows the Treasury Secretary to make and sell bronze duplicate medals at a price intended to cover production costs.
• Treats the medals as official national medals and numismatic items under federal law.
• Allows costs to be paid from the United States Mint Public Enterprise Fund, and sends any proceeds from bronze duplicate sales back into that fund.

What the bill does not do

• It does not create a new benefits program.
• It does not change immigration law, Holocaust policy, or museum governance beyond the medal’s transfer and display provisions.
• It does not provide direct payments to survivors or descendants.
