S. 4704: Redirecting Trump Slush Funds to Support Law Enforcement Act

This bill would do two main things:

• Block federal money from being used for certain legal settlements involving the President. It says no federal funds, including money from the Treasury’s “Judgment Fund,” could be used to pay legal settlements that benefit the President personally or politically.
• Prevent the government from creating or using special funds or commissions for that purpose. It would bar federal agencies from setting up or keeping any commission, fund, or similar mechanism if its purpose is to provide the kinds of payments described above. The bill specifically mentions the Attorney General’s announced “Anti-Weaponization Fund” as an example.

The bill also includes a separate funding provision. It would appropriate $1,776,000,000 from the Treasury to the Attorney General for two existing programs:

• The Public Safety Officers’ Death Benefits Program, which provides death benefits for certain public safety officers;
• The COPS Hiring Program, which helps fund hiring law enforcement officers.

In simple terms, the bill is designed to stop federal money from being used to pay certain legal settlements tied to the President, while directing new federal funding to law enforcement-related programs.
